Dear sir/madam,
How are you?
I would like to invite you to contribute to my new artwork, entitled Ex-Files*. It premieres in Institution for the Future, an exhibition curated by Biljana Ciric under the auspice of The 2nd Asian Triennial Manchester 2011, opening on 30 Sep 2011 until Dec 2011 at the Chinese Arts Centre, Manchester, United Kingdom.
Ex-Files is an installation that compiles reflections by former artistic-collaborators on their ‘failed’ working relationship. It allows previous creative partners to reflect on the past to achieve an informed understanding of the present as a basis to conceive a better or different future. Each case study will be a valuable contribution to existing debates on failure, collaboration, biography/autobiography and memory/imagination.
If you are keen, I would like you to indicate your interest and provide the contact details of your 'counterpart/s' immediately, and then email the following to me at mail@michaellee.sg by 31 Jul 2011:
1. A text (max. 500 words msword) of your reflection on how the collaborative relationship started, what went wrong between you and your former collaborator/s (who may be an individual, a group or institution), and what you have learnt from it;
2. An image of any genre (300dpi jpeg/tiff) related (directly or symbolically) to the specific artwork or collaborative relationship, and
3. A brief biography (50 words) of yourself, your group or institution.
For your valuable contribution, you will be given two copies of the publication when it is printed in late 2012.
I hope to receive your positive reply soon.
Thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
Michael Lee

*Ex-Files shares the same title with a regular column in The Guardian newspaper. That column features ex-lovers explaining their past.
