Institution for the Future as part of The 2nd Asia Triennale Manchester is an idea whose starting point begins as a consideration of the future institution and archive through a dialogue with different cultural actors in Asia, each positioning themselves as quasi-institutions. Through different platforms and technologies, including the web, magazines, archives, the institutions will present Institution for the Future as envisioned by curators, artists, museum directors, collectors in Asia and globally.
With each platform, curators will invite cultural practitioners to respond to the question of what new institution model might be developed to respond to the tonalities of difference in the region that actively contributes to the production of local and global knowledge.
The collaborative platforms will take advantage of existing regional arts archives and new discussions with one possible output for the future institutions appearing in different text-based media such as the e-books format that will be distributed and made available for download. Each platform may assume a different format depending on the specificity of the topic and will be open to Asian participating organizations as well as artists and groups in Manchester working in a variety of disciplines. The output of the interactions will be presented during the Triennale.
